Environmental Objectives

  • To operate our processes with minimum environmental impact and occupational health and safety hazards by adopting best available technologies, compliance of relevant legislation and highest standard of safe practices.
  • To continue to evaluate, review and improve our performance in environment, health and safety practices.
  • To implement comprehensive programs to prevent potential occupational risk and reduce negative impact to the environment.

STATS ChipPAC's Long Term Environmental Goals

  • Reduce energy consumption by 5% per year from 2008 to 2012
  • Reduce water consumption by 30% from 2008 to 2012
  • Recycle at least 70% of solid and chemical waste generated per year
  • Complete 7 Corporate Social Responsibility programs per year from 2008 to 2012

Key Green Programs and Achievements in 2011

In 2011, STATS ChipPAC implemented key environmental programs and initiatives.

Achieved 2.5% energy reduction (equivalent to 1.7% reduction in CO2 emissions [tonnes] / K-units) year-on-year  through Energy Conservation Programs
  • Heat recovery from exhaust and compressor hot air for re-use
  • Implemented CDA efficiency improvement, machine CDA auto on/off control and CDA piping upgrade
  • Improved efficiency of facilities equipment, i.e., chillers, centrifugal compressors and process vacuum
  • Increased use of energy-saving LED and induction lighting in all areas
  • Managed manufacturing equipment to high utilization with cold and warm shutdowns

Achieved 29% water reduction through Water Conservation Programs
  • Use of waste water recycling system
  • Use of recycled water in many manufacturing processes
  • Built new ultra filtration plant to increase recycling

Achieved 83% waste recycling through Waste Recycling Programs
  • Use of waste recycling system
  • Promoted and adopted ‘3Rs’ policy

Completed more than 20 Corporate Social Responsibility Programs
  • Environmental Protection and Awareness campaigns
      - Supported Earth Hour, World Water Day, Green Roof Project, Tree Planting, River Clean-up and Public Big Cleaning Day
      - Corporate and School Partnership on Recycling and making handicrafts from recycled materials
